Online Classes FAMM
Fiber Arts Mixed Media

I am very pleased to announce the begining of a new online teaching venue! The Fiber Arts Mixed Media website is a unique meeting place for artists and lovers of mixed media.   I will have my online classes listed here on my website and you will  pay for the classes here at the Shoppe-

http://www.alteredbydesign.citymax.com/alteredbydesign_shoppe.html

The FAMM site will be hosting the classes  using a forum, password, etc.  Check out the online venue here-

AAfter you place your order I will send you the supply list. I'll then email you  a day or two before the class starts with info. on how to sign up for the forum, password, etc. You can sign up now for theApril-June classes.  You may then download all the lessons at once or just one lesson a week.  This may vary from class to class however-

Angel Policy:  Please read through my angel policy before taking classes- I think is very reasonable. It's so funny nowadays when everyone thinks they can copyright every single idea and technique ~ All I ask is that you don't teach my classes or any part of them and that you NOT send in anything in for publication to any mag. or book. (Obviously because I'm planning on doing that) Please feel free to make and SELL the items you create giving me credit when possible. You could just say- inspired by a class I took with Carol Murphy and then give my website or something like that. That would in turn make money for both of us as I might gain some new students and you could sell your items made in my classes. Also, please try to change things up a bit and maybe use a different face, fabric, fibers, etc. People shouldn't look at your dolls and say," Oh that's one of Carol Murphy's pieces."  I want to inspire you to explore techniques, products, and ideas. All I ask is that you please respect my art and my time. Hopefuly this seems fair to everyone. Let's be honest here- I know times are hard and we're all looking for ways to broaden our income. I know that most of you are not taking my classes to make a piece to give to Aunt Matilda. Just try to remember the above mentioned stipulations and feel free to SELL, keep, or give away your creations made from my classes.

This book incorporates Tim Holtz die cuts which some of you may not have.  I’ll try to find substitutions for you when possible and hopefully can get a few kits together for a slight fee—(Not promising, but if things go well I will try to do that.)

Steampunk Debutante Bag Book Workshop is a fun filled class incorporating all things “STEAMPUNK” with“DEBUTANTE” flair.  Combine Graphic 45 papers with Prima flowers, Tim Holtz Die Cuts, gears, clocks, and more to create this unique little book.  I will teach you my original bag book technique along with several methods of creating pages and pockets.  This book is filled with pockets and tags leaving “tons” of room for photos, ATCs, journaling, or whatever you like.

Lesson 1:  “Bare Bones” We’ll be assembling our 6 page book using regular brown paper bags.  For my friends abroad who have no access to paper bags and for those of you who just want to learn something new-I’ll show you my unique technique for creating a bag book without bags!

Lesson 2:  “Pockets, Pullouts, and More” Learn how to incorporate pockets and pullouts to your Steampunk pages.  If you DON”T have a Rosette Maker from Sizzix, I will share an alternative for creating rosettes to achieve the same look.

Lesson 3:  “Tags and More”  We’ll be creating a mini book to tuck inside a pocket, designing our focal point pieces, and adding a few little surprises along the way.  Learn how to add those little extra details that take your mixed media pieces to the next level.

Lesson 4:  “Finishing Up” Here’s where all the final touches come in to play- add flowers, pearls, gobs of ephemera, laces, and more to finish up your awesome little “Steampunk” book.  Apply layering techniques and backgrounds to create interest and texture.  This little book is sure to make everyone smile – each page is chalk full of color, dimension, and joy.  Graphic 45, Prima, and Tim Holtz are a trio that just can’t be beat!

Hopefully I can get a few kits together for a slight fee—(Not promising, but if things go well I will try to do that.)

Want to try your hand at Steampunk and learn some lessons in repurposing and recycling along the way?  In this class you’ll create giant tags while incorporating Graphic 45 images and lots of ephemera.  In Lesson One we'll be exploring the art of composition and adding lots of color and contrast to our  tags.  In Lesson Two, we’ll decorate some tiny little books-adorable and very Steampunk!   You can use them as mini journals, sketch books, address books, mini scrapbooks, and more.  We’ll be recycling as we go- learning new techniques to make handmade flowers, repurposing packaging materials, combining fabrics and metals and more to create these gorgeous- very Steampunk Debutante tags and little books.
